It
Takes Time
Walking through a store the other day, we saw a display of
mass-produced toiletry items, all gtft packed and wearing
bold stickers, proudly proclaiming "a 68.99 value, now
ONLY 25.00", and the like. We can't do that. Oh, we might
take a few cents off now and then but not much and not often.
Handcrafting our products is time consuming. It is heart consuming.
We research. It takes time. We order. We don't necessarily
buy the cheapest ingredients because quality counts. It IS
important. So is buying from companies and people who have
similar business and product values as we do. It takes time.
Some of our products are months in the making. Our Alaskan
Pure, Raw Honey is from our own
bees. Our own hives. All worked and cared for and loved by
our own hands. It takes time.
And
what you don't see is just as important as what you do see.
Birthing kids. Chipping ice out of frozen water buckets. Replacing
soiled hay with sweet, fresh bedding. Many frosty, frigid
Alaskan mornings and evenings leaning against the side of
a warm goat, breath suspended in the air, slowly filling the
bucket with the warm, rich, and frothy milk that will soon
become the base of many of our soaps. It takes time.
All of our soaps are handmade. We slowly heat the oils. Stir
and pour each batch. Mold and later unmold. Turning each bar
for better cure. Trimming, feeling, smelling, polishing, and
labeling each individual bar by hand. It all takes time.
We like to think of it as an art. Certainly a definite labor
of love. You can't discount that.
